What is Sesame Oil

The reason why sesame oil is considered so healthy is due to the impressive amount of vitamins it contains  such as vitamin E and vitamin K. Also for its organic compounds, and other beneficial components. Sesame oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from sesame seeds. It is used as a cooking oil in South India, it is used as a flavour enhancer in Middle Eastern, African, and Southeast Asian cuisines and is also one of the earliest-known crop-based oils.

Sesame oil has gained quite a bit of popularity in recent years because it is relatively inexpensive to extraction through simple hot water flotation or a variety of pressing techniques. However, this oil is best acquired when the seeds are completely ripe, which means that the outer shells burst. It has a distinctive nutty aroma and taste. The oil extracted from Sesame seed is popular in alternative medicine, from traditional massages and treatments to the modern day. However popular this oil is, worldwide mass modern production continues to be limited. This is due to the fact that the manual processing that sesame seeds require, will always be in more demand than the supply.

Studies have revealed that applying sesame oil topically to the skin can help create a protective layer on the skin and save you from the harmful UV rays. It is commonly used in beauty treatments for the skin because it is an excellent moisturiser, promotes regeneration of healthy skin, has anti-ageing properties, and is considered to be a natural SPF. In some places, sesame oil has even been used to treat fungal diseases on the skin. You can use the oil every day without worrying about the side effects.

Sesame oil is valued in Ayurveda because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also used extensively as massaging oil because of its warming property and its ability to seep deep into the skin. This oil is Gingelly and rich in zinc, which is one of the most important minerals for your skin. It can increase skin elasticity and smoothness and reduce oxidative stress, thereby helping reduce the appearance of age spots and eliminating skin conditions, including premature ageing.

People suffering from diabetes can choose sesame seed oil for cooking.

A study published in 2011 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that sesame oil enhanced the effectiveness of the oral antidiabetic drug called glibenclamide in type 2 diabetic patients. Another similar study showed that replacement of sesame oil as the only edible oil has a stabilizing effect in further reducing blood pressure and plasma glucose in hypertensive patients. 

6. Improves Bone Quality

Copper, zinc, and calcium present in sesame, are vital for bone growth in the body. Therefore by adding sesame oil to your diet, you can increase the rate of bone growth and development. This oil will also speed up any healing or regrowth of bones. As you age, sesame oil can assist you in avoiding osteoporosis and other numerous age-related weaknesses in the bones. The calcium, in combination, with other minerals and vitamins from other food sources helps in proper assimilation and absorption of calcium in the body. You can either add sesame seeds to your curries, salads or even make sesame laddoos to reap the bone healthy benefits of it.
